Electric Version of the VW up! Unveiled

As if the Volkswagen pp! wasn’t frugal enough, the engineers at VW have decided to create an all-electric version of the tiny city car: the e-up! This will in fact be Volkswagen’s very first production electric vehicle, and while it’s unlikely to make it to the states, it is a large step forward for the German manufacturer.

Toyota, Ford Team Up On Truck Hybrid Tech

Despite the recent influx of hybrid and electric cars, there’s been virtually no news on hybridized large vehicles i.e. SUVs and trucks. Until today’s joint announcement from Ford and Toyota, that is. The two automakers have pledged to join forces and develop a rear-wheel drive hybrid system for large vehicles that will maintain their utility.

Plug-in Hybrid F-150 Pick-up Truck Getting Put to the Test

How would someone who uses their truck for work, every day, respond to a plug-in pickup? If Ford built a full-size pickup using design notes cribbed from Chevy’s Jesus car Volt, would the savings on fuel justify the added initial costs? That’s what the fleet managers at PG&E (and the drivetrain specialists at ALTe) hope to find out, as they put a converted Ford F-150 pickup through a gauntlet of stop-and-go driving, hauling, commuting, and more next year.
