The Tesla Model S is part sports car, part luxury car, and all-electric. For me, the best part is the focus on speed and handling, allowing the two-ton EV to move and handle like a much lighter car. Tesla owners are especially enthusiastic about drag racing, with the Model S pulling down consistent 12-second passes, and unlike traditional drag cars, it costs just pennies-per-pass in this sporty electric sedan.

While we’re still technically in the middle of winter, for racers of all kinds February feels like the final stretch of cold, wintery days. At the end of January the National Electric Drag Racing Association held its first drag race of the 2013 season, giving us a glimpse of what the Tesla Model S can do on the track. But what about the Chevy Volt? This video pits both green cars against each other, and the results aren’t what we’d call surprising.

National Electric Drag Racing Association Season Opener is Jan. 27th!

The National Electric Drag Racing Association is set to kick-off its 2013 season this weekend at South Florida’s Palm Beach International Raceway! If you’re lucky enough to make it, DragTimes.com founder (and old friend from my RENNtech Karting days) Brooks Weisblat will be blasting down the track in his Tesla Model S, with Shawn Lawless and Andrew McClary also on-hand with their 4-motor Chevy S-10 and beautiful, all-electric Ford GT40 replica.
