Volvo launched its hotly anticipated new XC40 crossover earlier today in Milan, Italy. The new small SUV is being marketed to young, hip urbanites and positioned as a premium alternative to vehicles like the Lexus NX and Mercedes GLA.
As you can see from the official press photos Volvo released, below, the company is hoping its clutter-free, Swedish design will help set the car apart from the competition- but that’s not the only way this car is different from others in its class. The biggest difference is Care by Volvo.
“Care by Volvo” turns car buying into something that looks like leasing a smartphone. There’s no down payment, no up front sales tax, or anything like that- you just make payments on the car for two years, then decide to buy it or “upgrade” to a new one. “After ordering online,” reads the press release, “Care by Volvo customers will be able to drive away in a new Volvo without having to worry about the traditional extras such as down payments, insurances, taxes, service fees and geographical or customer age related differences. Furthermore, Care by Volvo will, depending on regional availability, offer a range of digital concierge services, such as fuellng, cleaning, service pick-up and e-commerce delivery to the car.”
We’ll talk more about Care by Volvo in the future, I’m sure. If it’s successful, it could be the way millenials “buy” cars in the future … because we know Ford’s laughably bad “shared ownership” idea is definitely NOT the way forward.
That’s enough talk for now, though- you guys are here for the pictures. So, without further useless commentary, here it is. The all-new 2018 Volvo XC40. Enjoy!
