360 Video: Roborace vs. Goodwood FOS Hillclimb

Roborace has a vision of the future that is, it should be said, a bit different from mine. Even so, there’s no denying that the company made history this past weekend when its fully autonomous racing car became the first self-driving vehicle to complete the hillclimb run at Goodwood without hitting the hay bales the need for human intervention.

We first covered the attempt a few weeks ago, when we wrote that, “Roborace hopes the car will perform a lot better than OK, and help to establish both the car and the brand as a for-real racing series in the eyes of the motoring world.” And, after seeing the disaster that was Siemens’ autonomous Mustang smack into things despite having a human behind the wheel, I think the robot car deserves a bit of a victory lap.

The Roborace car was even faster than the Mustang!

You can watch the full Goodwood run in this 360 degree VR video, below. Once you’ve done that, let us know what you think of the Roborace racing concept, and whether or not you think video like this- combined with something like Formula E’s gaming concept- could shape the future of racing in the comments section at the bottom of the page.
