Over the past six months the Internet has been flooded with videos of the 691 horsepower Tesla Model S P85D racing, and beating, just about every conventional car it comes up against. Despite its 3.2 second 0 to 60 MPH time though, the P85D isn’t the end all, be all of electric car performance.
Just ask John Wayland and his 800 horsepower electric Mustang, Zombie222, which lined up against a Tesla P85D owner this weekend for heads-up drag race, and it should come as no surprise who won this little contest. Very few cars are capable of making a Tesla P85D look slow, but the Zombie222 by Bloodshed Motors certainly does, scoring a 10.2 second quarter-mile time to the Tesla’s 11.4…which is by no means slow. It’s just that the ‘68 electric Mustang is that much faster.
Of course the Zombie 222 also makes the Model S look affordable with a starting price of over $200,000. But for that you get P85D-beating power in the timeless body of a 1968 Mustang, an American classic. Perhaps one day the Model S will join the Mustang in the pantheon of great American cars, but on this day at least, a modern classic beat out the cutting edge in a most convincing way.
