This weekend the sixth round of the cutting-edge electric racing series Formula E went to America’s left coast for a race around the streets of Long Beach, California. Once again, this fast-but-quiet electric racing series has proved to be an action-packed affair with plenty of thrills and wheel-to-wheel action, with a new winner taking the checkered flag this time around.
Nelson Piquet Jr. came in first place for the sixth round of the Formula E series, taking his first checkered flag finish and the first win for his team, China Racing. Piquet managed to sneak by Daniel Abt and Sebastian Buemi during the first lap of the race, and managed to hold off the rest of the competitors for the length of the race. Piquet’s lead turned out to be so indomitable that despite earning a five-second power bump through the Fan Boost voting system, he never even needed to use it.
Piquet’s victory came after several favorites, like previous winners Sam Bird and Nico Prost, had to forfeit favorable positions or retire early. Thanks to Piquet’s previous podium finishes, the German-born Brazilian finds himself just a single point behind Lucas di Grassi in the points standings as the inaugural Formula E season heads towards the home stretch. With four races to go, there are still five very viable competitors who could still steal the show from the points leaders.
Who do you think will be crowned the first Formula E victory ever?
