Just eight examples 1,088 horsepower Rimac Concept_One have been built since early 2013,, and only 80 more will be built at a cool $1 million each. So what does a million-dollar electric car sound like at full-throttle? A lot cooler than you might think, actually.
Though it’s brief clip, it’s one of the few where the Concept_One has been able to really let loose, as most demonstrations of this electric supercar have been limited to public streets. As you might imagine, flexing 1,088 horsepower and a downright inconsiderate 2,800 lb-ft of instant torque on a narrow thoroughfare is probably not the best idea. But on the track is a different story, and here we can really see the Concept_One ring it outs four electric motors.
Rimac claims the Concept_One can zoom from 0 to 60 MPH in just 2.8 seconds, even faster than the mighty Tesla P85D, which has become something of a measuring stick for speed these days. A million bucks also gets you as much as 310 miles per charge, though Rimac has plans well beyond just a single supercar. The Croatian electric automaker wants to supply electric powertrain and drivetrain components to other automakers, and the technology Rimac is pioneering is even being used to improve the lives of the disabled.
I like how Rimac is going about this. Grab our attention with an expensive and sleek electric supercar, and then go all altruistic. Fleece the rich, and help the need…kinda like Robin Hood, but with million-dollar supercars instead of horses.
