Fast cars and hip-hop have gone together since the music style first burst out of the Bronx in the late 1970s, and Mercedes has been featured prominently in hits like Biggie Smalls “Big Poppa” and Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me”. But they’ve got nothing on rap duo The Mighty 190 who lay down rhymes about their grease-burning Benz.
Yup, this is another biodiesel Mercedes from the 80s, only this one has amatuer rappers Jan Emil Wathne and Iwar Kjetland waxing poetic about their eco-friendly luxury sedan. Lines like “This ain’t the Maybach, It’s the Mighty 190,” and “So the next time you tryin’ to get a burger with cheese,
yo you better hook up with that grease” aren’t going to change the shape of the auto industry tomorrow. They are however an entertaining deviation from the status quo, and there’s plenty of buxom babes and a biodiesel-powered burnout as well, giving some “street cred” to these Scandinavian rappers.
What I appreciate most of all though is this video shows green car enthusiasts can be every bit as passionate about their cars (slow and odd though they may be) as fans of any other automotive subculture.
I got that grease in my tank, in my tank…
