Self-proclaimed vegan hippie racer chick Leilani Munter is on a mission to connect traditionally-conservative stock car racing fans with the latest in green energy. Now she’s unveiled her new Energy Freedom race car.
Munter first got on our radar when she drove her Tesla Model S to an ARCA stock car race, though she has been a vocal spokesperson for green energy for some time. Like us, Munter believes that going green and going fast don’t have to be mutually exclusive. From her Facebook page;
“Introducing the Energy Freedom race car! Your Family. Your Choice: Freedom, independence, and self-sufficiency are at the heart of who we are as a nation. We have the right to save money and protect our families’ health by generating our own solar and wind energy to power our homes. This is why I am driving the Energy Freedom race car in Kansas on Oct 3rd!”
That’s today, by the way. Though stock car racing may be the last place you expect to hear talk of green energy, the sport is increasingly embarrassing alternatives to traditional power sources. The Pocono Raceway is powered by sunshine, and stock cars run on American-made E15 ethanol (sorta). Munter’s efforts to reach a group of people not normally receptive to green energy ideas goes a lot farther than preaching to people who already believe in a greener future.
