These days you can get LEGO playsets inspired by many popular franchises from Harry Potter to Star Wars, as well as iconic cars like the MINI Cooper. LEGO fans and gearheads alike can rejoice at the addition the Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 to their collection, as reported by Road & Track.
Like many Millennials, I grew up playing with big barrels of LEGO bricks to put together in ways only the boundless imagination of a child can come up with. It’s been twenty years since I stacked any LEGO bricks though, and in the past decade this niche brand has become the world’s largest toymaker, if you can believe it.
This has allowed LEGO to license many big names to sell more toys, including several Ferrari-branded models, though starting next year the floodgates will open to include a whole slew of other supercars. This includes to hybrid supercar favorites, the Porsche 918 and McLaren P1, as well as the LaFerrari and a playset that includes a pair of classic Porsche 911s.
While most of us will never be able to afford the hundreds of thousands of dollars these supercars command, having a few of these brick-built models on our wall isn’t a terrible compromise if you ask me. If I could suggest the addition to the LEGO lineup, it would either be the Tesla Roadster or Model S, and maybe some Formula E cars to get the kids hooked on the idea of EVs early. Hey, if it worked for cigarette ccompanies, why not for electric cars?
