Here at Gas2, we are striving to connect those who like to go fast with those striving to go green, and thankfully we’re not alone. One of the staunchest allies of the green movement is Leilani Münter, a self-described “vegan hippie chick with a race car” and owner of a Tesla Model S, who is reaching out to traditional stock car racing fans to show them that going green doesn’t mean sacrificing performance.
For Münter, this mission is personal, and while she admits there’’s nothing she can do about the emissions from her race car, in other aspects of her life she’s making attempts to go green. Münter recently drove her Tesla Model S over 1,000 miles to an ARCA race with Fusion.net riding shotgun, and she used her recharge pit stops to meet and greet fellow EV fans.
Then while at the track, she uses her race car to get fans attention, and then tries to sell them on the idea that green electric cars are actually pretty damn cool. This unusual standout is on a mission to raise environmental awareness among a group of Americans lacking serious exposure to what technologies like solar power and electric vehicles can do.
Münter is making herself known in the racing and EV communities, and she could become the spokesperson for a new generation of environmental evangelists doing their best to change the world. I’ve got my writing, she’s got her race car, and we’re both on a mission to make the world a little greener.
