Formula E Pit Stops Will Look Like This

The racing dynamics of Formula E will differ a lot of key ways from racing series like Formula 1, including a Twitter-powered speed boost a much lower sound profile. One of the biggest changes though will be not on the race track, but in the service pits.

Because Formula E race cars only have enough range for about half of the one-hour races, drivers will be forced to switch cars mid-race. Why not just swap battery packs? Due to safety concerns, Formula E officials opted to have drivers simply hop from one car into another, which will look something like the video below.

No, it isn’t graceful, and eventually I hope the series advances to the point where swapping the battery packs makes more sense. But for now…I guess it works? Tell us your thoughts about this new kind of pit stop.
