Mike Conway Set to Drive Toyota Hybrid LeMans Racer

LeMans 2015 - Mike Conway to Drive Toyota

Mike Conway is on a bit of a roll in this year’s IndyCar season, having won two races already for Ed Carpenter Racing and narrowly missed one or two others. Now, news out of the Toyota camp has Ed’s road course ace sliding behind the wheel of one of its 1000 HP hybrid LeMans racers for the fourth round of the FIA World Endurance Championship in Austin, TX on September 20th.

Conway already has experience with the TS040 Hybrid, having driven the car during winter testing and raced its predecessor at the Circuit of the Americas in 2013. He won the LMP2 class on his way to fifth overall on that day, with a few hundred fewer horsepower at his disposal.

“I’m really pleased to be given the chance to race a TS040 at the Circuit of the Americas and I cannot wait to get started,” said Conway. “The car is phenomenal, especially with the 1000 HP of four-wheel drive hybrid boost, and it should be great fun to race at the front in Austin … (the team is) fighting for the World Championship, and I will do everything I can to contribute to that. I’m ready for this challenge and looking forward to showing what I can do.”

Mike Conway will replace ex-Formula 1 driver Kaz Nakajima for the weekend, who will be in Japan racing in the Super Formula series due to a scheduling conflict.
