Though Jaguar has always employed the use of aluminum to lighten its sports cars, the upcoming Jaguar XE will debut the new Advanced Aluminum Architecture. This video describes all the work and payoff this lightweight chassis and body offers in the new XE.
Led by Dr. Mark White, Chief Technical Specialist for Lightweight Vehicles, the video describes how the new Jaguar XE will utilize supercar technology in a more affordable luxury sedan. With over 75% aluminum content that White claims gives the new XE an unrivaled low weight in its class. It’s also rigid enough to help improve handling and responsiveness, and Jaguar did all of this while exceeding global safety standards. Oh, and they’re aiming for 75 MPG…at least on the UK testing standard.
Powering the XE will be a new line of Ingenium engines that will run on either gasoline or diesel, and can easily be paired with a hybrid as well. Big things are coming from Jaguar, and the new XE should be making its full debut sometime soon.
