LeMans 2014: Porsche 919s Retire Early

Despite having one of the most innovative new hybrid systems of the 2014 field, it looks like the hopes of the Porsche 919 teams are well and truly dashed, and Mark Webber’s adventures at LeMans 2014 have come to an end. His no. 20 Porsche 919 Hybrid giving up the ghost right at the 22-hour mark, when the car slowed on the track and had to be limped home. Just 37 minutes later, the second LeMans Porsche also pulled into the pits.

With the official retirement of the two Porsche 919s apparently imminent, that leaves the Audi R18 e-tron Quattros running 1st and 2nd in the closing stages of the race, with the no. 8 Toyota (yes, the one that crashed yesterday) running third heading into hour 23 – albeit several laps behind the leading no. 2 Audi.
