Jaguar’s aluminum-chassis’ed XE sports sedan won’t officially debut until sometime next year, but the talented artists at TopSpeed have analyzed the latest round of spy photos out of the Nürburgring and brought us this: the 2015 Jaguar XE.
This particular prototype (shown, below) is believed to powered by a 335 HP version of the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 found in the current Jaguar F-Type coupe. Turbocharged 4 cylinder engines in both diesel and gasoline-burning configurations are also expected. They’ll be needed, of course, if the new XE assumes has any hope of becoming the brand’s sales volume leader when it finally bows as a 2015 or 2016 model.
As you look at the rendering, above, and compare it to the photos, keep in mind that Jaguar’s engineers appear to have, craftily, added extra materials above the backlight to camouflage wrap to the C-pillar and rear window. The actual production car is believed to have a raked rear screen leading to a stubby trunk, in keeping with the current “design language” of the XJ and F-Type models. Depending on how the 2015 Jaguar XE is received in the market, the XE platform could evolve into a full range of models, including another sexy wagon/crossover Jag and a sporty, sub-F-Type coupe, if reports from Carscoops are to be believed.
Stay tuned, then, for more on that.
