Monday Warm-Up: The Nissan ZEOD RC Crash Test

When you have a race car capable of accelerating to 200+ MPH in short order, you’d damn well better make sure those drivers are protected. Few feats of engineering are as impressive as race car safety components, and testing has gone above and beyond for the Nissan ZEOD RC zero emissions race car.

Even though it is constructed of mostly carbon fiber, the amount of force generated by the Nissan ZEOD RC can be tremendous at higher speeds, necessitating some serious safety features. In this crash test video, the carbon fiber nose and tip are repeatedly bashed against a wall to the melodic chords of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

It’s a sublime display of destruction in the name of progress.
