The world is full of would-be car designers, and Volkswagen wants to give one of them a chance to design their next video game concept car. The winner gets a design internship at Vdub, and a chance to see their design brought to virtual reality.
Crowdsourcing cars isn’t exactly a new concept in the automotive world, with Local Motors having built an entire business model on the idea. For Volkswagen, this contest gives either an individual or a pair of teammates to submit an orginal design concept that is distinctly and obviously a Volkswagen. The automaker wants designers to focus on five key areas; exterior, interior, trim & color, interface, and graphics. I’d suggest anyone looking for inspiration check out some of Volkswagen’s recent concepts or high-end production cars.
The contest runs through August 15th, and the winners will be announced on September 30th, with the top three designers/teams flown to Germany for a six-month design internship. If Nissan can pluck a new race car driver from a driving simulator, perhaps Volkswagen can find the next Chip Foose with a design contest.
