Experts Warn: Fracking Boom Will Lead to More Earthquakes

More and more experts in seismology and geology are coming to the conclusion that the fracking boom in Oklahoma is causing earthquakes– and more are likely to come. The situation in Oklahoma is getting so bad, in fact, that the state outpaced California for total quakes during each of the first three months of 2014. “The rate of earthquakes increased dramatically in March and April,” explained geophysicist Robert Williams of the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program. “That alerted us to examine this further and put out (a US Geological Survey and Oklahoma Geological Survey joint) advisory statement.”
