The Toyota TS040 hybrid race car racked up its second win in as many races at last week’s FIA World Endurance Championship race. This pair of races will serve as a platform for attack when TOyota takes on perennial champion Audi at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The victory at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this past Saturday put Toyota in a dominating spot going into the historic race at the Circuit de la Sarthe. Anthony Davidson took the lead and the checkered flag in his No. 8 Toyota TS040 hybrid, with the No.7 Toyota following in third place. Davidson’s run was more than a minute faster than the fastest Audi, and he also posted the fastest lap time of the day too, 2:01.327 at a top speed of 207.8 MPH, almost 2 MPH faster than the new Audi R18 e-tron.
It’s about more than just Toyota and Audi though, as the Porsche 919 Hybrid was nipping at the heels of both with a solid fourth-place finish. The pressure is on Audi to deliver, though a lot can happen between now and the start of the 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans.
