Formula 1 2014: Bahrain Qualifying Results – FINAL

Sebastian Vettel Out in Q2

Sebastian Vettel won 9 of the last 9 races of 2013, putting a firm stamp on a dominant season that many thought would see the German driver into an equally dominant 2014. Alas, it’s been the champion’s new young teammate who has impressed, with a solid 2nd place finish in the season opener (that he was later stripped of, through no fault of his own) and an equally impressive 3rd place in qualifying after a thrilling Q3. Where was Vettel?

Vettel didn’t make it into Q3.

That’s right, kids- the great Sebastian Vettel couldn’t manage to do better than 11th, before penalties were factored in. A ten-spot grid penalty for the talented (and utterly luckless, it seems) Daniel Ricciardo sees him start 13th, 3 places behind Vettel (who got promoted to 10th place). That’ll be little solace for Sebastian, however, who has been utterly out-driven by his teammate in the early 2014 races.

Here’s how tomorrow’s race will start …

Driver No. Driver Team Grid Pos.
6 Nico Rosberg Mercedes 1
44 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes 2
77 Valtteri Bottas Williams-Mercedes 3
11 Sergio Perez Force India-Mercedes 4
7 Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 5
22 Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 6
19 Felipe Massa Williams-Mercedes 7
20 Kevin Magnussen McLaren-Mercedes 8
14 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 9
1 Sebastian Vettel Red Bull Racing-Renault 10
27 Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes 11
26 Daniil Kvyat STR-Renault 12
3 Daniel Ricciardo Red Bull Racing-Renault 13
25 Jean-Eric Vergne STR-Renault 14
21 Esteban Gutierrez Sauber-Ferrari 15
8 Romain Grosjean Lotus-Renault 16
13 Pastor Maldonado Lotus-Renault 17
99 Adrian Sutil Sauber-Ferrari 18
10 Kamui Kobayashi Caterham-Renault 19
17 Jules Bianchi Marussia-Ferrari 20
9 Marcus Ericsson Caterham-Renault 21
4 Max Chilton Marussia-Ferrari 22

… and, if you watch the race on NBC Sports tomorrow, watch for Fernando Alonso to fight hard to get past Raikkonen while Hamilton tries desperately to get past Rosberg at the first corner. It’s going to be an utterly insane first lap. I promise.
