Video: Formula E Race Car Sounds Like The Future Of Racing

While some already bemoan the lack of a proper race car roar from the Formula E series, this next video shows that these electric race cars are far from quiet. Former F1 driver Jarno Trulli got behind the wheel, and what he heard and felt shows that this new breed of racing has a soundtrack all its own.

Trulli’s only Grand Prix victory came a decade ago in Monaco, though he was active in F1 up until 2011. Many of his peers have already signed on to race in this exciting electric racing series, and Trulli spoke highly of the Spark-Renault SRT-01E race car, saying it “feels like a normal racing car,” High praise from a fellow who has driven for Lotus, Toyota, and Renault, among others.

The great thing about these electric race cars is that they can be easily tweaked to each driver’s performance preferences, and Trulli can be seen giving engineers notes on the car. The car reacts to the changes, improving Trulli’s performance on the laps.

As for the sound? It’s different from what we’re used to, but definitely audible, for both the drivers and the fans. If you ask me, it sounds like the future of motorsports.
