Pikes Peak 2013 saw electric race cars come from every corner of the world to converge on a Colorado mountain top chasing what was once thought to be an impossible dream. This video features nearly 20 minutes of electric vehicles racing to the top of the mountain top, and if you love EVs and racing as much as me, you’ll want to get a coffee and sit down for this one.
For those out of the loop, Pikes Peak 2013 saw Monster Tajima in his custom-made electric race car take the overall EV class victory while setting a new EV class record, completing the 12.42 mile course in just 9 minutes and 46 seconds. That is the first time an EV completed the course in under 10 minutes, and last year would have set a record were it not for Sebastian Loeb’s incredible run.
Electric motorcycles fared better though, with Lightning Motorcycles claiming the overall win in the two-wheeled class, hearkening the beginning of an era of EV dominance (at least in my mind). This video includes footage of both the motorcycles and four-wheelers like the Mitsubishi i-MiEVs and Toyota P002, as well as on-board Monster’s custom EV.
I would recommend turning the volume down though, as the annoying car alarms organizers forced on EV drivers can get quite shrill after a while. Still, all-in-all, this feels like a great way to start the day.
