Video: Tesla Model S Silently Passes The Competition

model-s-willow-springsWhen I see videos like this, I feel kinda bad for the electric car haters. It must infuriate them that a company like Tesla Motors, with its government loans and sexy cars, is riding high on a wave on enthusiasm both for its product and stock price. A video like this, with the Tesla Model S passing established sports cars on a track like Willow Springs just rubs salt in the wound.

This Tesla Model S, owned and driven by Abraham Shrem, competes at an open track day at the famed Willow Springs International Raceway. These open track days draw all sorts of weekend warriors driving a wide variety of sports cars, but Shrem’s electric Model S passes most of them. Nothing like passing a Mustang or Porsche in a quiet electric car to infuriate an EV hater.

It really is remarkable how quiet the Tesla Model S is, even at full throttle. It quietly hums along at 100 mph, where other cars would be whining and roaring. And part of me misses that roar, no doubt, but a bigger part of me is excited for a world of silent speed machines jockeying for position on real race tracks.

This is the future of racing ladies and gents; get used to it.
