Video: Interview with Richard Hatfield of Lightning Motorcycles

While at the International Motorcycle Show in Long Beach, I spoke with Richard Hatfield of Lightning Motorcycles about his plans for 2012. In this video interview, he discusses the new motor they’re using, which is lighter and more powerful than the EV1 motor which propelled them to the top of the North American TTXGP 2010 Championship.

Hatfield says he plans to race TTXGP and Bonneville again, and will try to make it to the TTZero at the Isle of Man. He will always hold a special place in my heart because of this R1 he converted to an EV about 5 years ago. I saw it at the Maker Faire and fell in love. I wanted to ride it so badly. Well, an even better opportunity may come, as I may have a chance to take the 2012 Lightning for a spin around the track sometime soon. It’s much lighter and faster than that antique. Of course you’ll all be the first to hear about it.
