EVCCON 2011: the 8-passenger Toyota Prius-ine

Remember the Priickup truck that motored its way out of North Carolina back in August? It belonged to Steve from Auto Be Yours, which has been specializing in rebuilding salvage title Prii in recent years. Steve, the mastermind behind the Prius-ine shown here, explains that his business model “is to do the same thing over and over, and do the fun projects on the side.”

The Prius limo, shown here, is Steve’s third “wild” Prius, and is exactly what it looks like: two Priuses cut in two, then welded back together to make the 6-door Prius limo.

Eight wrecked Prii were reportedly cannibalized to build the 8-seater, but the end result makes for a pretty clean “ten-foot-car”, with everything functioning more or less as you’d expect (the the front and rear windows roll up and down normally, but the center windows are made of plexiglass and do not move … other than that: as normal as could be).

The build took about 16 weeks to complete, in between other projects, and features a 5KW battery pack upgrade and the latest Plug-In Supply ECU software upgrade, good for about 40 miles of EV-only operation.

Steve will try to outdo himself again with his next project, the Priustoric – and I really have no idea what he’s got up his sleeve, but I’m guessing a rat-rod “historic” Prius. What do you think it will be? Let us know, in the comments.
