Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Teaser Shot Sports All-New Front End

Hyundai’s Sonata Hybrid — the first hybrid from the company to reach market — will be unveiled next week during the New York Auto Show. We’ll be covering that live, so watch out for more info, but in the meantime, Hyundai has released a teaser shot of the completely redesigned front end.

Instead of simply stuffing a hybrid system into an existing car without making it look any different, such as with the Ford Fusion Hybrid or the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Hyundai has opted to set the Sonata Hybrid apart from its non-hybrid ilk by giving it a completely redesigned — and rather more aggressive looking — front end. Although very little information has leaked out regarding the specs of the Sonata Hybrid, it’s widely reported that it will have a 30 kW electric motor, a lithium-polymer battery and a 6 speed transmission.

The inclusion of a lithium polymer battery would be a first in the standard hybrid class — Toyota, Honda and Ford all still use the older and less energy dense nickel metal hydride batteries. The inclusion of the lithium batteries may even mean the Sonata Hybrid can drive for short distances as a pure EV.

We’ll soon find out all the details, but from the front end shot above I think the Sonata Hybrid looks pretty good. What do you think?
