If you’ve been looking for a legit, carbon-fiber, single-seat race car to tear up your local track day, then I have just thing. Meet the Griiip G1- an all-new spec racer powered by a 1000cc Aprilia V4 engine that puts out a healthy 201 HP at an ear-splitting thirteen-thousand RPM. I don’t really need to […]

Despite our well-documented love for Mazda and its SkyActiv diesel racers, neither the SkyActiv Mazda 6 or the much-hyped SkyActiv LMP prototype racer (shown, above and at this link) saw much success in either the 2014 or 2015 seasons. For its part, Mazda appears to have decided that the problem isn’t with the crew or […]
Formula Student was launched to help find the next generation of engineering talent- and this deep dive from Racecar Engineering shows how good they are!
Toyota is entering its upcoming Toyota FCV Mirai hydrogen fuel cell sedan in the Japanese Rally Championship- does it have a prayer at victory?
The 2013 Formula 1 season is drawing to a close this weekend, but the search for the next generation of young stars to take control of the world’s fastest hybrids never stops- especially for a company like Ferrari, whose Formula 1 success drives a multi-billion dollar manufacturing and merchandising empire. To that end, Ferrari is […]
Volkswagen’s 260 MPG XL1 supercar is a marvel of low weight and aerodynamic design – and the XL1 has always struck us as a new breed of supercar that used all the high-tech materials and design concepts that made Porsches, Lamborghinis and Bugattis special, and applied them to a “go far”, rather than a “go […]
Formula 1. NASCAR. Indianapolis. LeMans. Daytona. The name “Andretti” has seen success in almost every form of motorsport, from the dirt tracks of Nazareth, PA to the World Driver’s Championship and more. Now, the Andretti family is set to take its storied legacy into the future, by announcing that their Andretti Autosport team would be America’s first official entry in the upcoming Formula E electric racing series!
Check out this video of Monster Tajima’s all-electric Pikes Peak racer testing for the big race later this month.
For a while there, it seemed like the only thing standing between Audi and another LeMans trophy was Toyota and their hybrid racecar … but it wasn’t meant to be, as one of the two cars took part a dramatic aerial flip (after a collision with a GT car) and a smaller accident followed by […]
Mazda’s SkyActive technology program has been batting .1000 since its inception, giving us better cars, kickass commercials, and one of the sexiest endurance race cars to come out of anywhere since anytime. The fact that the new Mazda 6 diesel racer is dead-sexy AND has 4-doors (getting it the coveted “A-OK” from the wifey) is almost too much to process.
It’s little wonder that EV West – in a bid to prove the endurance of their electric product offerings – is headed to Baja in the VW Beetle-based electric beastie you see here.
Saying that my love lust for Honda’s diminutive and sporty CR-Z hybrid is “well-documented” might be a bit of an understatement. Heck, I even burned some bridges at the Detroit News to “stand up” for the little car way back when! So, try imagine my surprise when, nearly 2 (two) years later, I find myself […]
Lola has built some of the most successful competition cars of the last few decades – and, last month, Lola Cars went into administration … which is British fancy-talk for bankruptcy. Here at Gas 2, we’re fans – and the “Lola Cars Headed for Bankruptcy” post has been sitting in the “unfinished drafts” section of […]
Porsche’s 918 hybrid supercar is real, and here’s proof: amateur “spy photos” taken at the Nardo high-speed test track in southern Italy. According to onlookers, the 918 prototype “looked like a mobile laboratory, with chopped up 911 bodyparts and fat bundles of wires.” Sounds good to me! Two years ago, Porsche showed the 78+ mpg, […]
The tests have been run, practice sessions are over, and it’s time to put up or shut up for the best teams and drivers in motorsports (and HRT). That’s right, kids! The world’s fastest hybrids are officially back in action at the 2012 Australian GP, which will be broadcast live on Speed’s streaming web channel […]
This is the first week of Formula 1 winter testing, and we are under way in Jerez, Spain – and make no mistake: the world’s fastest hybrids are back! Since my very early childhood, the end of the Formula 1 season has been a dark and dismal affair. There are no more early European and […]
With wins in virtually every type of motor racing you can imagine – Indycar, Formula 1, rowboats, etc. – Lola is an undisputed motorsports legend. Earlier this week, the Lola legend got a little bit greener, with the announcement that UK-based Drayson Racing would be bring an all-electric racer to taze shock zap amp-up the […]
