Originally posted on EVObsession While India is in the midst of a major modernization effort, many parts of the country remain rooted in tradition, whether that means the caste system or garbage pickup. In the ancient South India city of Pallavaram though, things have taken a decidedly sustainable turn, as the traditional garbage pushcarts are […]

Even though the first season isn’t even half over, the forces at work within Formula E are already looking towards the next season, naming eight manufacturers that have already pledged to support […]
Indian automaker Mahindra has unveiled the Reva Halo electric sports car concept with realistic ambitions and a buggish shape.
A decade ago America was inundated with SUVs are soccer moms and insecure men sought to drive the biggest vehicles their budgets would allow. Today Americans are turning towards fuel-efficient SUVs after dancing with the devil of gas-guzzling SUVs, but other countries like India have managed to skip the growing pains of V8 SUVs and go right into more efficient four-cylinder crossover models.
The Ford Model T was really only remarkable because it was produced in such large numbers. Painted just one color (black!) and available with only the most basic of options, the Model T was a very humble vehicle built en masse. Today, America lacks such simple, basic transportation…but over in India automakers are producing a new generation of cars that harken back to the era of the Model T both in simplicity and broad appeal.
India doesn’t have much of an EV market – but some officials are convinced that’s a matter of infrastructure and subsidy, rather than a lack of market demand … and they’re willing to bet over $4 billion (with a “B”) on their hunch. Granted, India’s harsh environment and developing infrastructure makes the super-simple electric motor […]

Happy Monday, and almost Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays as well, just to cover all my bases…but anyways, on to the news! This morning’s highlights include a California’s campaign against 3,000 mile oil changes, GM’s powerful little Euro-diesel, and Mahindra pickups might be built in Alabama. It looks like the Mahindra TR20 and TR40 compact pickup trucks will not be seen on American roads after all. The EPA’s approval for the Mahindra pickup trucks will expire at the end of 2011, and no paperwork has been filed to request a 2012 model year EPA approval.
It’s not often I get excited about Indian automobiles, but the Mahindra TR40 diesel pickup seemed like everything I could want in a small truck, including power, towing capacity, and 30 mpg. Or so I thought.
I absolutely love trucks. I used to sit in the back seat of my mom’s Ford Escort and marvel up at all the trucks like the ones my dad drove. Hell, my pop drove the same ’88 F-150 for almost 20 years. I am older and wiser now, and I know all the drawbacks to […]

It seems GM didn’t […]
