In our 4th article pulled from Electric Cars: What Early Adopters & First Followers Want — a new report from CleanTechnica, EV Obsession, and GAS2 — I’m jumping into which electric car models respondents were most likely to buy and most excited, as well as some implications regarding certain car companies. Without surprise, current EV ownership matched historical EV sales fairly well — 33.9% […]
Via EV Obsession: Those who drive one of Ford’s electric vehicles and who also possess an interest in “smart watches” may be interested to hear that the company has developed a new app that allows owners to remotely control their car on a smart watch. To be more specific, users of the new app will be […]
Via EV Obsession: Well, let’s be honest, August was a lame sales month for electric car lovers. There are clear reasons for this. Historically, the two highest-selling electric cars in the US have been the Nissan LEAF and the Chevy Volt. The 2nd-generation Chevy Volt, much improved and even a little cheaper, is just hitting the […]
Originally published on EV Obsession. It’s no surprise to see that German car companies continue to top the electric car sales table in Germany, but after test driving the Audi A3 e-tron myself, I have to admit that I’m surprised to see it and its almost identical cousin, the Volkswagen Golf GTE, topping the tables. The […]
Originally published on EV Obsession. Well, the Netherlands is certainly turning out to be one of the most interesting electric vehicle markets in the world. It is #2 in terms of electric cars’ percentage of total new car sales, but the cars leading the pack keep changing. The Dutch plug-in hybrid fetish is apparently as strong […]
Originally published on EV Obsession. Well, that was a crappy month… if you’re an electric car fan. Almost across the board, US electric car sales were down in July 2015 compared to July 2014. However, three models were up — the Tesla Model S ($75,000), the Mercedes B-Class Electric ($41,450), and the BMW i3 (42,400). […]
I’ve been long planning to do an EV owner and lessee survey like this, so I am super eager to see the results. (I’m going to have a hard time not watching them obsessively as they come in.) But the key, of course, is getting EV owners and lessees to complete the survey. If you drive […]
In a move meant to mimic Tesla and Toyota, Ford has announced that it will open up some 650 hybrid and electric vehicle patents for use by its competitors. Unlike Tesyota though, Ford won’t be giving its patents away, but rather charging an unspecified licensing fee. That’s hardly newsworthy, though the announcement of 200 additional […]
Originally published on Sustainnovate. Following up on my articles on the history of solar power science, history of solar power policy, history of solar power manufacturing, history of wind turbines, and history of trains, here’s a piece on the history of electric cars. Most people mean “electric car” when they say “electric vehicle.” Electric vehicles […]
Though the Ford Focus Electric has been on the market nearly as long as the Chevy Volt and Nissan LEAF, it hasn’t had nearly as much success. That’s mostly Ford’s fault, as the Blue Oval put almost no marketing muscle behind the Focus Electric, and it always seemed a few steps behind the competitors with […]
Ford is cutting $6,000 from the price of the Focus Electric, which brings its MSRP under $30,000 before any Federal or state incentives.
Ford execs are mulling the idea of selling its plug-in hybrids, the Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi, to European customers for the first time.
Lincoln is looking to expand its lineup, and all options are on the table, which could take the form of a sports car, hybrid, or even an electric vehicle.
This year’s Chicago Auto Show marked the first time I got to poke around one of Ford’s still rare electric Focus models. These EVs have been on the market since 2011, but haven’t had the same kind of success that other, better EVs have.
Ford hybrid sales have exploded over the past year as the Blue Oval added several electrified models to its lineup. Leading Ford’s hybrid charge was the Ford Fusion Energi and C-Max Energi, two plug-in hybrids that could soon be joined by a third model, the Focus Energi, which will offer a longer electric driving range and a lower price.
While electric cars like the Nissan Leaf and even the Fiat 500e are regularly making the news, one EV we haven’t heard much from is the Ford Focus Electric. Unfortunately the latest news on the electric Ford isn’t good, as a powertrain software fault requires the recall of approximately 2,456 Focus Electrics out of less […]
Following on the heels of cars like the Nissan Leaf and Smart ForTwo Electric Drive, the Ford Focus Electric is getting a chunky price cut to make it more competitive with other electric cars. Unfortunately, even after hacking $4,000 off the MSRP, the Ford Focus Electric remains one of the most expensive EVs you can buy. When will Ford get serious about electric cars?
While Ford hasn’t invested as much money or effort into pure electric cars as some other automakers, its latest project could shape up to be its most promising. We already told you about the hub-in-wheel rear-wheel drive Ford Fiesta eWheelDrive, and now we have video of it in action, as well as talk about what the future of this new electric drive system may hold.
These days a majority of vehicles utilizing front-wheel drive, including the ever-popular Ford Focus. A German company has converted a Ford Fiesta into an all-electric, rear-wheel drive vehicle using wheel hub motors, changing the driving dynamics of this popular commuter car. Maybe this is the way to get people to drive EVs en masse.
