Following the downward revision of the Ford C-Max Hybrid fuel economy rating, sales of the hatchback hybrid have fallen over 50% in just a year.
When the Ford C-Max Hybrid rolled out last fall, the Blue Oval made a big deal about the Prius-rivaling 47 mpg rating. Unfortunately for Ford, real world driving results were nowhere near Ford’s mpg claims, launching both lawsuits and a Federal investigation. The end result cost the C-Max 4 mpg, and Ford millions of dollars in restitution payments.
The C-Max is the first hybrid that I have spent a significant amount of time with. My other experiences are an hour with a Prius and 3 laps of a test track in a Focus Electric. I liked the Focus Electric and was underwhelmed with the Prius, but the C-Max has opened my eyes to hybrids! I learned a lot about myself, my driving style, and what it means to be a hybrid driver slow.
With more hybrid cars on the market than ever, it should come as no surprise that sales of hybrid vehicles continue to grow month after month. 2013 could prove to be a watershed year for hybrid cars though, with sales of both pure electric and hybrid vehicles putting on strong showings in an increasingly competitive car market.
Nick Chambers didn’t just review the Ford C-Max Energi; he bought one. Read his review to find out why.
While General Electric has a vested interest in see electric and plug-in hybrid cars storm the car market, GE has apparently had a change of heart. The electronics and aviation giant announced that it was no longer seeking to replace much of its fleet with 25,000 hybrid and electric vehicles. Instead, GE will pursue other alt-fuel options, including CNG and propane.
I’ll be the first person to admit when I am wrong, and I have been critical of the decision to hype up the Ford C-Max hybrid for months in advance of actual sales. But the tactic seems to have worked, as in the first two months of sales the Ford C-Max Hybrid has become the fastest-selling hybrid car ever.
There’s a bit of trouble in paradise over the real-world fuel economy of the Ford C-Max Hybrid and 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid, which are delivering less-than-expected mpg numbers for many consumers.
It certainly is in General Electric’s interest for plug-in vehicles to gain a following in America; GE has invested heavily in supply charging stations for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. So it is no surprise that the electronics giant has placed an order for 2,000 of the new Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, making it […]
Ford has declared war on the Toyota Prius family of hybrid vehicles, and its latest weapon in the war of fuel efficiency is the C-Max Hybrid. The Blue Oval has every reason to feel confident too; during its first full month of sales, the Ford C-Max Hybrid outsold the Toyota Prius V. Is the Prius brand losing its luster?
The Ford C-Max Energi has been hyped by the Blue Oval as both cheaper and more efficient than the competition. Ford now has another metric it can use in its ad war, as the EPA has given the Ford C-Max Energi a 21-mile all-electric range, and a total driving range of around 620 miles.
The Ford C-Max Energi has a lot of numbers in its favor, from lower pricing to better MPGs to a longer driving range. Well Ford is about to add another feather to its hat, as the EPA has given the C-Max Energi a 100 MPGe rating, better than both the Toyota Prius Plug-In and the Chevy Volt.
Ford is positioning the 2013 C-Max Hybrid as a Prius fighter, and for good reason. For more than a decade, the Toyota Prius has been the undisputed King of Miles Per Gallon. But with pretty much every automaker in the world gunning for it, the MPG gap is growing narrower by the day. The Blue Oval announced that the 2013 C-Max Hybrid nets a combined mileage of 47 MPG…just 3 MPG behind the mighty Prius.
The Ford C-Max Hybrid seems to be the Blue Oval’s answer to the Toyota Prius V, offering a versatile crossover vehicle with high-mpg figures. Just how high we didn’t know until this week. The upcoming C-Max Hybrid will reportedly deliver 47 mpg in city driving and 44 mpg on the highway, handily beating the Prius […]
