I’m not saying the 2016 Chevy Trax is the worst car I’ve ever tested, but I can’t imagine anyone, anywhere paying the nearly $30,000 asking price for it.
The 2016 Chevy Spark will be a completely redesigned car, Chevrolet says. Billed as a “city car,” the diminutive Spark will be manufactured in Korea and sold in 40 markets around the world. There are a ton of reasons why electric cars should be the dominant type of car on our roads — reasons why you should really ditch your gasmobile for an electric car. Some of those reasons would slowly sway portions of the market. But logic doesn’…
Plug-in and electric car sales have grown quickly in 2013, out-pacing the growth of the market overall and out-pacing even the most optimistic projections from just a year or so ago– but how does the adoption of electric cars compare to the historical market growth of gasoline or hybrid cars? As the first pure electric car from GM since the ill-fated EV1, the Chevy Spark EV has a lot of weight riding on its adorable roof. September’s plug-in car sales continue 2013’s trend of being up over 2012. Way up. Way up to the tune of over 400% way up. It has been more than a decade since General Motors produced an electric vehicle for the public to buy or lease, and there is a lot riding on the Chevy Spark EV. While some may claim it is nothing more than a “compliance car,” the 82 mile rating combined with 400 ft-lbs of torque shows GM is at least serious enough to keep pace with the competition, if not exceed it.
What is the magic number when it comes to EV driving range? The initial wave of Nissan Leafs received a 73 mile rating, though plenty of owners have achieved more or less range, depending on a wide variety of factors. Automakers are working hard to find the “sweet spot” for electric vehicle pricing. But will that help the Spark EV sell better than the competition?
One of General Motor’s executives recently laid out the automaker’s plans for achieving 500,000 electrified vehicle sales annually by 2017. Auto Show, GM has slipped a few pictures out to an eagerly-awaiting public, as well as some key information.
Around the world, automakers that were once bullish on electric vehicles, investing billions into new battery and motor technology. But a harsh reality of low EV sales mixed with an uncertain economic outlook, especially in Europe, has settled over the industry. So it isn’t the least bit surprising to hear that the Opel Adam EV has been cancelled…mostly due due to high costs.
