Elon Musk has placed a high emphasis on aesthetics at his companies, and everything they do has to look as good as it performs. From ensuring the Tesla Model X has enough “Wow!” factor with the falcon-wing doors to designing sleek 21st century space suits for SpaceX, Elon Musk likes things to look good, and the underground London Supercharger station is no exception.
This is, quite simply, the best-looking EV charging station around, bar none. Previously I would have given the nod to the built-from-bamboo BMW i charging dock, and the BMW lightpole charging stations is a pretty neat idea too. But the capacity, lighting, and sheer sci-fi look of this underground Supercharger station is hands-down the new champ. It’s just in time too, as EV sales have never been better in the U.K.
It’s little things like this that are helping set Tesla apart from the crowd. While Nissan and BMW are planning to install fast chargers at local dealerships, Tesla is building much sexier charging stations that make even the pedestrian act of plugging in your EV seem way, way cooler. Tesla could have designed a much simpler Supercharger station itself, but even the look of the plug dock was given a lot of consideration in the pursuit of a sweet and sleek design.
Musk has a clear vision of what the 21st century should look like, and he’s doing his damndest to make it happen.
