We blasted Panoz’ drawings of a road legal Deltawing GT when they debuted last year, but it’s starting to look pretty decent in the flesh. Check it out!
Remember Ben Bowlby’s DeltaWing racer? It promised to use half the horsepower, half the fuel, and half the tires as conventional race cars, without sacrificing any speed. Surprisingly, it sorta worked, at least well enough for Nissan to poach Bowlby and begin their own racing program around a strikingly-similar design. Meanwhile, the DeltaWing team has […]
DeltaWing Technologies is moving forward with a plan to design and build a $15,000 electric three-wheeler in Georgia with an emphasis on car sharing.
This week Don Panoz filed suit in Georgia state court to block Nissan from racing its ZEOD RC Le Mans car after taking out an accusatory advertisement in a Tennesse newspaper, reports Racer Online. The suit seeks monetary damages against both Nissan and Ben Bowlby, the lead designer for both the ZEOD RC and the DeltaWing […]
The race hasn’t even started, but Boris Said and the DeltaWing team are a having rough Mosport. Said was in a horrible crash, and the Deltawing caught fire!
Panoz-owned Elan Motorsports recently unveiled plans to produce a bulbous, awful looking monstrosity based on its successful DeltaWing racing program.
Last year the cutting-edge DeltaWing race car concept got a big boost when Nissan signed on as a major sponsor. But that relationship came to an end earlier this year as Nissan decided to strike out on its own with a hybrid DeltaWing knockoff called the Nissan ZEOD RC. That was bad enough, but the recent […]
The car you see here is the culmination of the collaboration between Nissan and Ben Bowlby, the alien super-brain behind the DeltaWing racecar and Nissan’s upcoming ZEOD RC electric LeMans racer. It’s called the BladeGlider, and it just won all the car shows- the guys from Toyota and Mitsubishi might as well pack it up […]
Katherine Legge hits the track in the new DeltaWing coupe – an evolution of last year’s DeltaWing Spyder that competed at the 24 hours of LeMans and the Petit LeMans last year. Despite getting punted off the road by a Toyota hybrid in France, the car made a strong case for itself in the US, […]
We’re big fans of the DeltaWing, a race car that stands to change the way we approach racing for decades to come. With its unique design and emphasis on efficiency, the DeltaWing sacrifices nothing when it comes to power or speed. With the 2013 racing season soon to begin, the DeltaWing has gotten a few upgrades to help it prepare to compete, though their big corporate sponsor is calling it quits.
With the end of 2012 approaching, it is a good time to look back on the year that brought us many triumphs and trials for all sorts of alternative fuel vehicles. If you ask me though, the most important vehicle of 2012 isn’t one you’ll ever see on public roads. Nope, it is the Nissan DeltaWing, a next-gen race car that could change everything we know about cars.
A herculean effort by the Highcroft racing team to put the Nissan-backed Deltawing racecar project back on track after series of setbacks and crashes paid off last weekend. The team finished the race in P5, establishing the Deltawing as a legitimate concept and (hopefully) opening the door to racing a similarly configured car in other series. […]
Bad news from the experimental Nissan DeltaWing camp. Yesterday during a practice session for this weekend’s Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta, a Porsche smacked into the Nissan DeltaWing, flipping it over. Thankfully, the driver was fine, and the team expects to be back on the track tomorrow.
In case you can’t tell, the Nissan DeltaWing is one of my favorite cars to write about. The idea of racing with an emphasis on efficiency appeals on every level to my love of fast-yet-fuel-efficient cars. So you can imagine how happy I was to read that the sanctioning body for the American Le Mans Series has approved the Nissan DeltaWing to compete for points in the 2013 season.
The Nissan DeltaWing represents a new frontier in the world of racing, using half the power, half the tires, and half the fuel of traditional race cars, while sacrificing nothing in terms of performance.
Don’t believe me? Just watch this video from on-board the DeltaWing while it does some hot laps at Road Atlanta…and you too will become a believer.
Of all the exciting alternative fuel vehicles I cover for Gas2, none are as awesome as the Nissan DeltaWing. As a race car with half the weight, half the power, and half the fuel consumption with equivalent levels of performance, the DeltaWing is nothing short of a race car revolution. Now comes news that the DeltaWing will return for the last race of the World Endurance Championship Petit Le Mans contest.
