Last week we reported on Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s response (via Twitter) to a young fan who wrote a letter requesting that the company run a fan-made ad contest — after all, there are so many great “Tesla commercials” made by fans, so why not reward some of the people making them?
Musk agreed that it was a good idea and that the company would follow through. … It seems that things move fast in Tesla-land, as the contest has already been launched. Dubbed “Project Loveday,” the contest will include the following:
→ The 10 “best” videos, as decided by Tesla, will be shared across social media.
→ The top 3 videos will be given additional promotion.
→ The top pick will be granted a spotlight at an upcoming product launch (in addition to paid travel expenses and accommodation for two).
The contest itself runs through May 7, but the product launch won’t be until sometime after June 2 (the deadline for claiming the prize). So … it sounds like the product launch may be that of the Tesla Model 3. Notably, though, the ad contest encompasses the company’s solar and energy storage offerings as well. The commercials, for that matter, can simply focus on the Tesla “mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy” — rather than anything more specific.
If you want to enter the contest, simply post your video to YouTube and then post a link on the contest page. Here’s more from Tesla:
“10 year old Bria Loveday sent us a letter and suggested we hold a video contest. We thought that was a great idea (thanks Bria). Over the next couple of months we will collect videos from around the world as part of the ‘Project Loveday’ video contest. If you’re interested in submitting a video, simply create it, keep it to 90 seconds or less, send us a YouTube link along with your entry form, and wait to see if you’re one of our top winners.”
For some inspiration, here are a few fan-made Tesla commercials we’ve seen over the years and enjoyed:
