Formula E 2016: Power Unit Innovation Explained (w/ Video)

Season 2 of the increasingly popular, all-electric Formula E racing series features relaxed rules that allow the competing manufacturers to design certain aspects of their cars’ power units. Some- like Williams– have boosted battery output significantly while others have focused their efforts on the motors and transmissions.

In this video, Formula E’s animations department have illustrated some of the different solutions the teams have come up with. That’s interesting enough, but the brief cost/benefit overview of each of the competing solutions is what’s sure to get the gear heads even more excited.
