“I think it would be a cool race, it would be something to do and to get the win there would be cool,” Juan Pablo Montoya told reporters in Bahrain, after testing the latest 2015 version of the Porsche 919 hybrid. “If I have the opportunity to do it, why not?
To a hysterical Montoya fan like
me Gas 2, that’s more than enough spark to start a crazed push to get JPM into a super high-tech hybrid Porsche 919 for the 2016 running of LeMans. And why shouldn’t he? With wins at Monaco, Daytona, and Indianapolis, LeMans remains one of the only major races that Montoya (who drove the fastest lap in the history of F1) hasn’t won- and a win at LeMans would make him only the second driver in history to pull of a career “triple crown“.
“To be honest, we haven’t even talked about it,” says Montoya- who is probably lying. “I don’t know, I’m really happy with IndyCar where I am with the team and everything. I think a lot of people assume because I’m doing this test I’m doing Le Mans, but there’s not even talk about it … but if (I) do Le Mans, it has to be in a car like this.”
To those of who hear what we want to hear and, also, were fans of Juan Pablo Montoya before he bought a Chevy Volt and started terrorizing his passengers in a Tesla Model S, that basically means JPM is going to race at LeMans. When tat happens, bet on the man.
