Rimac Pairs With Monster Tajima For Pikes Peak Run

Priced at a million bucks and packing 1,088 horsepower, the Rimac Concept_One probably has more in common with the Formula E electric race cars than a Nissan LEAF. Yet Rimac’s ambitions aren’t necessarily to make an electric car for the masses, but rather to build the components other companies need to make their EVs stand out.

What better way to demonstrate Rimac’s engineering prowess than with an electric race car? A 46-second teaser video released this morning gives us a glimpse of what is undoubtedly an all-electric race car. The end of the video asks a mysterious question…”Are you ready for a new record?” to which the video responds to itself “We are.” Yet if you watch the video, there are enough hints to figure out exactly what’s going on here.

My first thought was Nürburgring, and then I thought maybe even Formula E given Rimac’s partnership with the racing series. But then I watched the video again and noticed some hints that pointed in a much different direction. First off, there’s a strange T symbol seen from the in-car view, which sort of looked like the Tesla symbol. Upon closer inspection though, it’s actually the symbol from of famous hill climb racer “Monster” Tajima. The description also mentions “Monster”, and from the few glances we saw, this racer looks like a much different beast from what we might see in Formula E.

Then there’s the timing; Pikes Peak is almost exactly a month away, and Monster Tajima has been oddly quiet for someone determined to set a new overall course record in an electric vehicle. With Rimac on Team Tajima, the record seems much more certain to fall now.
