This morning Mazda released a teaser video for the next-gen MX-5 Miata,, and the 14-second teaser reveals what we’ve long suspected. The next Mazda MX-5 Miata will indeed boast forced induction, with the unmistakable sound of a turbocharged engine revealed in this video.
It had been rumored that the 2016 Miata would break cover at the New York Auto Show, and it did…sorta, as the all-new chassis was on display. The rest of the car was MIA, though now we have a confirmed reveal date of September 3rd, using #LongLiveTheRoadster to get the word out about the reveal.
With the whirr of a turbocharged engine in the background of this teaser though, Mazda has already tipped its hand as to what to expect. With a turbocharged engine on deck, possibly as small as 1.5 liters, and a new lighter, better handling chassis, everything else from this point on is just gravy.
Long live the Roadster indeed.
