Signs of the Apocalypse: BMW to Build a FWD Minivan in 2015

BMW’s inexorable march down-market began with the 1 series a few years ago, and continued with the introduction, at the 2012 Paris show, of the BMW X2. That march- um … will march on with the 2015 introduction of this: a seven passenger, front-wheel drive, BMW minivan.

Those of you thinking that a FWD BMW is heresy should probably start buying guns and huddling around your Bibles. Maybe head over to Insteading and learn some survival tips, too. For the more calm among you, this mini-minivan (think Mazda 5 or Ford CMax) is based on the 2014 BMW X2 Active Tourer– which, itself, is based on the latest “UKL” corporate platform that also underpins the 2014 Mini Coopers. As such, the new MPV is expected make use of the latest Mini 3 and 4 cylinder engines, and should be more than up to the task of taking on the Mazda 5 for the title of “official enthusiast baby-hauler”, and- if we’re lucky- all the go-fast Mini tuning parts will bolt on to this, as well.

You can see a few more views of the upcoming BMW MPV/minivan, which will probably debut at the 2015 Geneva or Frankfurt show, below. If you can’t wait that long for BMW minivan pictures, MotorAuthority has 20 high-resolution photos at this link. Enjoy!
