McLaren P1 Super Hybrid Gets Driven (in the UK)
McLaren is having a good 2014 so far. In addition to having just put both its Formula 1 cars on the podium at this year’s Australian GP, McLaren earned a 5-out-of-5 star rating for its newest street going hybrid from the UK’s AutoExpress magazine.
The guys at AutoExpress were lucky enough to have the chance to put the recently released, 900+ HP Can-Am yellow McLaren P1 through its paces on a UK airstrip, recently, leading to the racy-looking composition shown in the photo, above. For their part, AutoExpress issued the following verdict on the P1:
McLaren has created a package that redefines the amount of grip, power and performance a road-legal car can produce. The P1 has the agility and drivability usually missing from hypercars. Its hybrid technology has been beautifully integrated, and the aerodynamically optimised styling leaves you in no doubt about the car’s capabilities.
To find out how AutoExpress’ testers came to that verdict- and to see how the new McLaren stacks up against the current crop of hybrid supercar competitors like the LaFerrari and the Porsche 918– click this link. Even if you’re not that interested in the final numbers, the photo gallery alone is worth the hassle. To help motivate you that way, I’ve included a few of my favorites, below. Enjoy!
