The saga of Mission Motors is a tale of broken promises and renewed hope for a company that once promised to deliver one hell of an electric motorcycle. After a significant change in business strategies though, the Mission One was dead on the drawing board…or so we thought. But a new teaser from Mission promises the “fastest street-legal electric motorcycle ever made.” Bold words. Can we trust them?
In 2009 the Mission One raced onto the scene as a 150 mph electric motorcycle that set an AMA land speed record with a price tag of almost $70,000. At the 2011 TTXGP, Mission Motors beat all comers and promised a production version for sale soon. Instead, Mission shifted towards supplying electric motorcycle components to other companies, dashing the hopes of Mission fans everywhere.
But this new teaser promises that on June 3rd, the fastest street-legal electric motorcycle ever made will be unveiled, despite Mission Motors laying off a lot of its staff last fall. It’s hard to tell what twist or turn the Mission story will take next, but if nothing else, this company have proven quite stubborn in an environment where green car companies are suddenly going under left and right.
Do we dare to hope? We do.
