Mazda’s SkyActive technology program has been batting .1000 since its inception, giving us better cars, kickass commercials, and one of the sexiest endurance race cars to come out of anywhere since anytime. The fact that the new Mazda 6 diesel racer is dead-sexy AND has 4-doors (getting it the coveted “A-OK” from the wifey) is almost too much to process.
A pack of Mazda’s clean-burning diesel racers took to the track at this year’s Rolex 24, competing in a new class designed to foster innovation in alternative fuels. They did OK, when fuel pump gremlins didn’t chase them back to the pits. Mazda, however, have a long history of getting innovative technology to work (and win!) when others failed to – we’re looking at you, Mercedes-Benz!
The company had one of its Mazda 6 diesel SkyActive race cars on display at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, which I snapped a few pics of, below, but I couldn’t find a street going version to take any shots of on the floor. No diesel street cars are coming from Mazda, I was told, until later this summer.
