Video: 740 Horsepower Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive Laps Ascari Circuit

Electric vehicles have come a long way in a short time, and automakers are quickly realizing that there is a well-to-do market for zero emissions performance cars. The 740 horsepower, $537,000 Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive is among the vanguard of electric supercars, and now there is footage is this quiet riot racing through the Ascari Circuit.

While the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive is limited to just 150 miles of driving range, and a top speed of 155 mph, it will go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds. It’s wicked fast, and wicked expensive, but unlike many supercars, the only song it sings is the quiet hum of two powerful electric motors.

I’ll admit, it is a little disconcerting to see this shiny blue supercar zipping through the Ascari Circuit, located at the Ascari Race Resort in southern Spain. It just doesn’t seem…right? Yet on the same token, the benefits of quieting down traffic seen almost endless, whether it is in the Spanish countryside or a congested city like Paris, France

What say you readers? Can you get on board with the idea of super-quiet supercars like the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive? Or do you miss the rumble and roar of combustion engines?
