The Nissan DeltaWing represents a new frontier in the world of racing, using half the power, half the tires, and half the fuel of traditional race cars, while sacrificing nothing in terms of performance.
Don’t believe me? Just watch this video from on-board the DeltaWing while it does some hot laps at Road Atlanta…and you too will become a believer.
Despite a heartbreaking debut, the Nissan DeltaWing has captured the hearts and minds of racing fans the world over. It is a design that should not work, but does. It is lightweight, fuel efficient (at least compared to the current crop of race LMP1 race cars), and uses technology, not brute strength, to achieve the same levels of performance.
I mean just look at this car go! The narrow front wheels and wide rear track help the DeltaWing generate an immense amount of grip, while the aerodynamics reduce drag by more than half. Even with a 300 horsepower, 1.6 liter engine, the DeltaWing can run and gun with cars with twice as much power.
Anyway, I loved this video, and figured some of you might love it too. The DeltaWing may very well be a prelude to the future of all race cars…and maybe even street cars too.
