What is the future of fuel? What's new? What's next? Since 2007, Gas 2 has covered a rapidly changing world coming to terms with its oil addiction.

On a typically gorgeous day in Los Angeles, I awoke at “racin’ time” (6am) to meet Harlan Flagg and some of his customers for a Sunday ride. We had a blast tearing through Beverly Hills then past the Tesla dealership and the incoming Fisker dealership en route to Plug In America’s parade in Santa Monica. Once there, I met with EV industry luminaries such as Chelsea Sexton and Ed Begley Jr.

Deutsche Bahn—Germany’s railway operator—has set a target of raising the companies renewable energy consumption from 20% right now, through28% as soon as 2014, and to a full 100% by 2050. Even with social unrest targeting Germany’s rail way system, Germany is pushing not only the further construction of their rails but the perfection of the use of renewable energy in their mass transportation rail systems.

Though the Nissan Leaf is selling well-enough as the world’s first mass produced electric car, in other areas of green tech like hybrids, the Japanese automaker has fallen behind. Until now, that is. Nissan recently revealed a new supercharged engine mated to a hybrid system that promises to deliver both performance and fuel efficiency.

A new week and a new look for Gas2, along with a no tagline…”This time, it’s sustainable!” Thank Mr. Borras for that bit of cleverness. This is just the first of many new features we will be bringing you. For now though, let’s rehash some of the last week’s big stories, including a new line of little GM engines and 10 vehicles that are selling worse than the Nissan Leaf.
