Honda appears to be adding three new hybrid models to its Freed lineup – they’re on Honda’s Japanese homepage, but the press release seems to be forthcoming. Where’s the formal announcement, Honda?
The models added to Honda’s hybrid gallery are one 5-seat and one 7-seat vehicle, using the Freed base and called the Freed Spike Hybrid, and the luxurious Insight Exclusive. All models will have a built-in hybrid system, with a 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine and an integrated IMA system. The standard Insight is also described as upgrading its 1.3L engine to a 1.5L as well.
The 3 additional Honda hybrid models certainly allow customers a greater variety of choices for hybrids, but the reasons for Honda’s apparent silence on the matter are unclear. As there has been no official announcement, it is also unclear as to whether these vehicles will be available overseas.
