There has been a lot of back-and-forth regarding the future of Formula One racing. Among the highest tiers of international motorsports, F1 cars need serious performance. So can this all-electric F1 vehicle, from FondTech, called the E-11, keep pace?
According to FondTech, it can. Developed for the recently-announced “Formula E” series sanctioned by the FIA, the FondTech electric F1 car can supposedly keep pace with its gas-powered opponents for up to 20 minutes. The batteries are buried deep inside the butt-ugly body, and it features a four-wheel drive system to produce extra grip.
I can’t get over the looks though. While this may be an aerodynamically pleasing shape, aesethically, it looks bloated and hardly at all like a race car. The first on-track tests should be conducted come January, and while I am usually all about anything electric performance…I think they need to take this design back to the drawing board.
It just doesn’t look worthy of racing a Formula circuit. It’s too tall, too fat, and not very race car-like at all if you ask me. Not that anybody did. But with Formula One looking into everything from electrified pit stops to a full-blown EV racing circuit, the prospects of seeing a FondTech Formula E car on the track seem pretty good, though the competition isn’t likely to be a pushover.

my design for a world speed record in 1978 was similar but when it was blitzed by some one in USA i changed the design to a hybrid sports car instead
good on them even if it looks a bit weird it could have a low CD
i would have thought they would have the batteries each side of the driver and allow for future quick change system
i can imagine two batteries each side and a team rushing from each side and unplug the batteries and replacing them in some thing like 10 seconds.
so interesting when they show the real concept model

as a sports car but as racer was going to have driver between the front/ rear wheels and batteries in the middle.
