Video: Nissan Leaf Pokes Fun at Volt and GM's Clever Response

As the first mass market EV, the Nissan Leaf has win over consumers who may be wooed by the costlier-but-more-practical Chevy Volt. So Nissan asks, what would the world look like if everything were powered by gas?

There’s be gas-powered alarm clocks, gas-powered cellphones and iPods, and even gas-powered microwaves. My favorite one though was the gas-powered computer, complete with ignition key and gas pedal, though considering  Then Nissan goes on to show somebody filling up a Chevy Volt with gasoline, only to look across the street with envious eyes at the fellow unplugging his Nissan Leaf. Oh-so-clever of you Nissan.

Obviously, GM didn’t appreciate the gesture, and the General’s product and brand communications chief Jason Laird responded to the video with this tweet;

“A carmaker poking gentle fun at our product ignores towtrucks they need and rental cars they recommend as backup to their product.”

SLAM! So, while I really like the commercial, I think Laird’s response was spot on. Let’s call this one a wash.

    “Can’t we all just get along?”
    LOL
    I like the Volt better than the Leaf for the way I drive, and because it looks a bit cooler than the Leaf, but every car that relies on domestically produced electricity instead of foreign oil is a great car in my book. Can’t wait for Ford to get the Focus Electric onto the sales lots, the more the merrier.

    Oh my, that was funny. Electric cars are not for everyone but it’s the car for me.

    Funny video though.
    However, the Electricity was made from some sort of gas anyway.

      not true. lots of electricity is created without any kind of gas or hydrocarbon…and more every day.

    You have to wonder why Nissan chose to attach the Chevy Volt? Are they that threatened by the Volt? It doesn’t really make sense to me. I think both vehicles have their place. For me, I would like a Nissan LEAF as a third car for commuting to and from the city. But for the last job that I had, the Chevy Volt would have been needed.

    Play nice boys and girls.

      John,

      You must have missed the attacks that Chevy has been launching at the Leaf.

      This is clearly Nissan saying “F U…and the horse you rode in on” back to GM.
