Legislation Would End EPA’s Ability to Regulate Fuel Economy

I’m all for cutting government waste, but a recent bill introduced by Republicans in Congress would bar California from setting its own emissions and end the EPA’s power to regulate auto emissions. I hate politics.

Popeye Would Love Spinach-based Hydrogen

Cartoons seemed to have gotten it right again last week, when our sister site Cleantechnica posted news out of the Oak Ridge National Lab in Tenessee, which announced a new process that converts visible light into hydrogen fuel, courtesy of ordinary, produce-spec Spinach. Cleantechnica writer Tina Casey reports that researchers at Oak Ridge have been [...]

Suburbs Might be the Abandoned “Slums” of the Future

empty_mall

Today’s car-dependent suburbs may become the “Wild West” ghost towns future, if you believe a recent report from Planning Institute, Australia.  In their report, the PIA states that “Australia will be forced to rely on huge quantities of imported oil unless it radically overhauls its transport and urban policies,” which is old-news to readers who [...]

Scion iQ EV Coming in March

iq_1

Just in time to make my favorite new car that much more favorable, WorldCarFans is reporting that Toyota has plans to bring a prototype of an electric iQ minicar to next month’s Geneva Motor Show. “Essentially a near-production version of the FT-EV concept, the iQ features a newly-developed flat lithium-ion battery that enables the car [...]

When I [...]

ZOMG! It’s a CNG Civic GX!

DSC02976

Having written about these cars before (here, here, etc.), you’d think I would have been psychologically prepared to encounter an honest-to-goodness, CNG-powered Honda Civic GX.  I wasn’t, and immediately opened the car up and started pulling knobs and levers. “Hi,” said the charming Honda marketing rep, noting my press badge.  “Can I answer any questions [...]

U.S Believes Saudi Arabia Running Out of Oil

Landscape

Nobody knows how much untapped oil is left, and even the data on “known” sources is sketchy. The U.S. thinks that Saudi Arabia may not have as much oil left as they’d like us to think.

Lexus Brings Ridiculous “Tuned” Hybrid to Chicago

ct200_h

Lexus brought out a number of modified hybrid cars to Chicago, apparently hoping that customizers like 5 Axis would be able to bring some sort of “baller” cred to their awkward luxo-hatch … which raises one very important question:  do the kids still say “baller”? Whether they do or don’t, this bass-boat glittery 5 Axis [...]
